Now centrally located on the Barre-Montpelier Road, Ormsby’s Computer Systems has officially moved from its huge complex in downtown Barre and opened last October at 1755 US Rte. 302 in Berlin. It had been an important business in downtown Barre since the 1980’s, but the opportunity came to move into newer, more updated offices, offering convenience to customers in all of central Vermont.
“The move went quite well and we’ve been able to use less space more efficiently,” said longtime owner Brad Ormsby. “Our staff has really been exceptional.”
Ormsby’s Computer Systems has evolved from selling “hard equipment,” mainly Apple products, to mostly business systems to meet client needs.
“The bigger stores like Staples, Wal-Mart, etc. really cut in to the computer business. However, they left us plenty of room to work with customers on how to best use their equipment with our repair and service,” Ormsby said.
John Ormsby, Brad’s father, originally had the idea of Ormsby’s Computer Store and launched that project in the early 1980’s.
“My father, always aware of what was coming, got me involved right out of college,” explained Brad, who holds a degree in Business Administration.
John Ormsby created the legendary Ormsby’s Appliance Store in downtown Barre and supplied most of the greater Barre and central Vermont homes with quality merchandise and service.
“When an idea was done, he would just as quickly drop it or let someone like me continue on with it,” Brad said. CB Radios and records/CD’s are two examples.
Always able to adjust to current market conditions and keep staff has been Brad’s signature style.
Fred Woodworth, service and repair technician, along with systems engineers Mark Howard and Eric Meade, have been phenomenal. Also, Brad’s wife Sarah, as well as Lori Beede, do a superb job of holding down the front office and making sure scheduling goes smoothly. Ormsby also wanted to recognize Jessica Aseltine, a valuable recent employee who just had a baby girl. She worked in the same position as Beede and is now a stay-at-home mom with her two young boys and new daughter.
On Wednesday, May 27, Ormsby’s will celebrate with an Open House from 4-7 p.m. and will be attended by the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce. Refreshments, including beer and wine, will be provided by the Cornerstone Pub and Kitchen.
