BROWN, IRENE LAFAYETTE, 94, died April 5, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Alton Luther and Florence Ruth (Bailaw) LaFayette. She attended the Plainfield Center School and graduated from Plainfield High School, then attended Burlington Business College. On April 21, 1944, she married Urban A. Brown in Plainfield. They spent most of their married life in Plainfield. He died Sept. 1, 1982. She had worked on the dairy farm that she and her husband owned and operated. She also was a cook at Goddard College in Plainfield, had worked for the Vermont Agency of Transportation, and was a caregiver in Montpelier. Her memberships included the Grace United Methodist Church of Plainfield, the Capital City Grange in Montpelier, and the Twin Valley Senior Center in Marshfield. Her interests included bird-watching, flower gardening, her pets, playing pinochle, and poetry by Ima Kidder. She is survived by her son, Bernard Brown, of Plainfield; and her daughter Maria Brown, of Woodbury; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a niece and three nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters Brenda Blair and Kay Smith; a grandson; a brother, Alton Jerome LaFayette; and a sister, Florence Bridges.
