TREMPER, EILEEN ADSIT, 79, of St. Johnsbury, passed away February 18. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlton Overton Tremper Jr., and is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hanover (and husband Stephen), of Doylestown, Pa., son Carlton Overton “Chip” Tremper III (and wife Kathy), of St. Johnsbury, and brother Hoyt Adsit and sister Janette Nigolian, of Sherburne, N.Y. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Michael Tremper (and Terry), of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Laurence Tremper (and Florence), of New Port Richey, Fla. Eileen was born on April 17, 1933, in Sherburne, N.Y., to Leland Eagan and Marjorie Lucas Adsit. She was a 1955 graduate of Cortland State Teachers College, where she was a member of the Nu Sigma Chi sorority, and married Ovy, a graduate of Colgate University, on Dec. 27, 1955. She taught reading in the Valley Stream (N.Y.) School District and elementary school in Newark, N.Y. She and Ovy were one of the founders of the Dutch Reformed Church in Baldwin, Long Island. She and Ovy retired to Woodbury in 1987 and opened the Hidden Pines Bed & Breakfast. They welcomed guests from all over the world to their home and community. Eileen was passionate about education and politics. She was a longtime member of the Woodbury School Board, volunteered at Hazen as a mentor, and supported Judevine Library in Hardwick. She was a voracious reader, filling her book basket weekly. She also built wonderful friendships within the community and cared deeply about animals. She supported local animal shelters, Heifer International, the Salvation Army, the Food Shelf, and many other worthy charities. She lost her beloved dog, Bea, in January.
