ASHFORD, JUDITH M. CHASE, 74, of Northfield, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a short battle with lung cancer. Judy was born Nov. 23, 1939, in Woodbury, the daughter of the late Burton Chase and the late Fern Wright. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1957. She married Forrest C. “Rolly” Ashford on July 4, 1959. They were married for 47 years before Rolly’s passing in 2006 from ALS. Judy lovingly cared for him at home during that time. She worked for the state of Vermont in the Department of Personnel for over 30 years until her retirement in 2002, where she spent her whole career, starting work with an on-the-job training program and ending her career as a recruitment services supervisor. Judy loved to cook, fish, spend time at the family camp in Newark, Vt., go to yard sales and read. She enjoyed watching NASCAR and golf. Judy was an amazing caregiver, also caring for her daughter Robin before her passing in 2010. Judy loved animals and took in any ragamuffin that came into her life. Judy was a member of the Auxiliary Unit 63 for seven years, who enjoyed socializing with her friends and cooking for community events. She was famous for her chicken and biscuits. Survivors include her children Kyle Ashford and partner, Melodie Ashford; and Holly Gaudet and husband, Jeffrey; a brother, Lester Chase, and wife, Cheryl, of Colton, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Judy was predeceased by her husband, Rolly; her daughter Robin; and a grandson, Paul. Services will be held at Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield Dec. 28, 2013, at 11am. Burial will be held in the spring at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
