HARVEY, RAYMOND THOMAS, 87, of Barre, died November 20, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Allyn and Rita Harvey, in Marshfield. Born in Colchester Feb. 28, 1926, he was the son of Henry C. and Emily (Anderson) Harvey. He attended elementary school in Barre and Washington, and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1947. He later graduated from New England Technical Institute in Providence, R.I., as a refrigeration technician. He had worked at the former Rock Appliance Co. on Washington Street in Barre and the former Rouleau Granite Co. as a granite sawyer. For over 20 years, he worked at the Barre post office as a letter carrier, postal clerk and finished his career as a rural carrier, retiring in 1988. On Jan. 8, 1949, he married Shirley A. Gamsby in Orange, and they always made their home in Barre City. Shirley died Feb. 16, 2007. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, gunsmithing and spending time with his grandchildren after his retirement. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946 and had been stationed aboard the USS Bennington. For over 50 years, he belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Berlin. He had served as branch president and was a member of the Bishopric and held many other positions within the church. Raymond will be remembered as a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and church member. Survivors include his daughter, Dawn Baird, and husband, Brent, of Fairfield, Calif., and three sons: Allyn Harvey and wife, Rita, of Marshfield, Paul Harvey and his partner, Darlene Parker, of Swanton, and Colin Harvey, of Barre, as well as 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Marion Aja, and husband, Paul, of East Barre, and two brothers: Donald Harvey and wife, Lorraine, of Barre Town, and Henry Harvey and wife, Lina, of Washington, as well as a niece and four nephews.
