LOCARNO, FRANCIS LEO “FRANK,” 66, of East Barre, died peacefully November 25, at Central Vermont Medical Center, following a 15-month battle with lung cancer. Born on Nov. 11, 1947, in Barre, he was the son of Leo and Florence Marie (Turcotte) Locarno and a lifelong resident of East Barre. He attended East Barre Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1965. After graduation, Frank enlisted in the United States Army with his good friend, Ron Perreault, and served in Vietnam. He was discharged from Fort Devens in Massachusetts in 1971. That same year, he married Suzane Roy, of Barre, and they made their home in East Barre. Frank began his professional life at Holden’s on Ayers Street in Barre, moving to Hill-Martin Corp. on North Main Street in Barre, where he worked in the parts department until his retirement as the parts manager for the last 10 years. An excellent baseball player in high school and in the local men’s league for many years, he was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He collected baseball cards his entire life and passed the hobby on to his grandsons, along with his love for the sport. Frank loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He attended both Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in East Barre and St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. Frank’s friendliness to everyone will long be remembered by all who knew him. Frank is survived by his two sons, Christopher Locarno and wife, Amy, and their son, and Craig Locarno and wife, Melissa, and their three children, all of East Barre; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Flo Locarno.
