ABAR, BEULAH BELLE, 91, of North Barre Manor, passed away November 19, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Born Sept. 2, 1922, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George Franklin and Leona Agnes (Welch) Towne. She attended schools in Waterbury and received her GED from Montpelier High School. On May 20, 1939, Beulah married Daniel W. Abar in Waterbury, where the couple lived until the birth of their first son. Later, they made their home in Bethel, Barre and Northfield, and returned to Barre. He died Jan. 16, 1970. Beulah was a homemaker. She also had worked as a millworker for Northfield Products in Northfield for nearly 20 years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, where she served in the altar guild, and a member of the American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary, both in Barre. Knitting, reading, serving as a senior companion with the Barre Council on Aging, and taking sightseeing rides were some of her favorite pastimes. Survivors include one son, John Abar, of Barre; two daughters, Linda Riley and husband, Robert, of Lake Placid, Fla., and Nancy Edson, of Winooski; seven grandchildren; as well as 12 great-grandchildren, a nephew and three nieces. Her husband; parents; son Donald Abar; daughter-in-law, Gladys Abar; brother, Edson Towne; and former longtime friend Raymond Roberts predeceased her.
