Clifton C. Markham

Clifton C. Markham, 92, of Riverton, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2019, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Warren, VT on April 23, 1926 to Cecil and Florestine Markham. Clifton attended Warren Schools, later joining the army at the age of 17. Clifton was a WWII veteran. After serving in the army Clifton met the love of his life Phyllis Chadwick, later marrying her on March 27, 1948, in Montpelier VT. Clifton was a lumberjack for many years, serving many different businesses throughout his entire life. Clifton and Phyliss went on to start a family of their own, raising eight children and later locating to Riverton. Clifton enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, working in his saw mill, and spending time with his family and friends. Clifton was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Berlin, Vermont for many years. We would all like to remember Clifton for his contagious laugh, kind hearted personality, warming smile, and the love he had for his friends and family. Clifton is survived by his children; Jenella Herring, of West Berlin, Darlene Manning, of Barre, Laura Badger, of Berlin, Clifton Markham Jr., of Berlin, and Gary Markham, of Berlin. In addition, Clifton is survived by his 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and many friends and extended family. Clifton is predeceased by his beautiful wife, Phyllis, three sons, Conrad, Francis, and Vincent Markham. A celebration of life will be held on January 26, 2019 at 1710 Route 12, West Berlin (Clifton and Phyllis’s residence) from 2-4.
