Kenneth Ward Carter, 88, passed away Nov. 13, 2018. Ken was born in Buffalo, NY, and grew up the second of four children in a family of six, primarily in Arlington, VA. He earned his undergraduate degree from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and his doctorate in psychology from Ohio State University. Ken served in the U.S. Army during Korean War. Anyone who knew Ken knew his lifelong passion was music. His instrument was his beautiful voice. While raising his family in VT, Ken held countless musical roles. For 40, they were part of the fabric of Goddard College and later, Norwich University, where Ken taught in the graduate program and Mary directed human resources. In 2009, Ken ventured on a trip around the country, living out of a pop-up Aliner camper. Ken is survived by four children and their families: son Christopher Ward Carter and husband Peter Morse, grandson and great-grandson, of Walnut Creek, CA; daughter Stephanie Carter Caplan and husband Jason Caplan, of Raleigh, NC, and two grandchildren, of Charlottesville, VA; daughter Lynn Carter and beloved granddog Dyna, of Raleigh, NC; and daughter Laura Carter Scheid and husband Todd Scheid, and a granddaughter, of Chapel Hill, NC. He has one surviving sibling, sister Ruth Sullivan, and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews around the country.
