Barre, VT- Andrew McHugh fell asleep in death due to a stroke at the age of 52 surrounded by family and friends at UVM Medical Center. Andrew was born in 1966 to Peter McHugh and Annie Olejar on Long Island, New York. At the age of 6 he moved with his parents and brothers, Christopher and Tom, to Stowe, Vermont, where they operated the Grey Fox Inn for several years. He attended Stowe Schools and enjoyed close relationships with cousins from the Murphy, Bell, and Tsonas families. In 1987 Andrew’s father married Cate Remington and he gained a step-sister, Miranda Wildman. He graduated from Stowe High School in 1984 and from UVM in 1989 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
His career centered on accounting and finance first working in Boston for the FDIC and Federal Reserve Bank, and later in Central Vermont for National Life, GE Healthcare, Northern Power Systems, and most recently at Wells River Savings Bank. He was a CPA and operated his own consulting and tax preparation business, AJM Advisors, serving 180 clients. Even though his work life was sitting at a desk, Andrew was sure to remain physically active enjoying tennis, hiking, and sailing. Formerly he practiced Bikram Yoga. Most recently as a member at Green Mountain CrossFit, he benefitted from the physical activity and he appreciated the warm community atmosphere.
With workmates, clients, friends, and acquaintances he was reserved, kind, and easy to like. Andrew was always ready with a witty quip or profound piece of advice for anyone willing to listen. As a loving husband to Rosalie, he was patient and respectful. Deeply involved in the lives of his children, John, David, and Timothy, he inculcated values of responsibility, maturity, and independence. He and his wife were an effective parenting team, earning the respect of their children. His boys will never forget how their dad made their school lunches for them every day.
Andrew was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 19, 2014. He was a member of the Barre congregation where he served as a ministerial servant.
