Vera Erlene Slack Strong. Born in Northfield, Vermont, 96, to Lucian and Cora Slack, one of eight children.
A true Vermonter who exemplified what Vermont was all about. Strong, intelligent, quiet, hard working individual, a belief in God and a friend to all, she set an example of what a person should be!
Predeceased by her husband of 50+ years, Col. W. I. Strong, a man who loved her dearly.
She saw the world but came back to roost where she was born.
Her two sons (Ken and Dana) and two daughters (Jan and Carol) grew up to be successful in their endeavors.
The family still has the bell, where she would call class to order on the Cox Brook Rd., Northfield, she taught 5 grade in a one room school house with a coal stove and an outhouse.
How times have changed!
Donations in lieu of flowers may go to the Mayo Nursing Home, Northfield, VT, where they provided wonderful care for her last years of life.
There will be no calling hours per her wishes, but a graveside services will be held next summer at the Randolph, VT Veterans Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband. Time will be announced.
