Kathleen E. Welch, 95, died on  Feb. 4, 2018, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT. She was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Tunbridge, VT, the daughter of Percy H. and Bessie (Farnham) Welch. She attended school in Tunbridge and later, South Royalton, VT, where she graduated in 1941 from South Royalton High School. She served two-and-a-half years in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) Division of the U.S. Navy during World War II. While in the service, she was stationed at the naval air station on the Pawtuxet River in Maryland. She had worked 15 years at the Tunbridge General Store for George Wood and later, Verne Steves. For many years, she would help with the milking and chores on the family farm. In 1967, she was elected town clerk and treasurer for the town of Tunbridge. She held this position until her retirement in 1995. At the time of her retirement, the Vermont State Legislature passed a resolution to honor her for her many years of service to the town. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, knitting, crocheting and reading.nShe was a member of the Green Mountain Girls #113 (a local unit of WAVES National) and several other women’s military groups. She is survived by a sister, Agnes Allen, of Chelsea, Vermont, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
