LAIRD, HAROLD L., 86, died September 20 at Genesis Health Center in Keene, N.H. He was born July 4, 1927, in Montpelier, the son of Clyde H. and Nettie (Getchel) Laird, and attended local schools. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked in trucking most of his life, retiring in 1987 from the former St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters Union local #597. He was also a member of the Elks 1619 in Bellows Falls, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Alstead, N.H., Order of the Eastern Star, Mizpah and Eunice, and American Legion Post #4 in Keene, N.H. He was past district deputy grand master of the New Hampshire Masons and past master of St. Paul’s Lodge #30 in Langdon, N.H. as well as secretary. Survivors include his wife, Jennie A. (Norton), whom he married Aug. 24, 1946, in Montpelier; two children, Elizabeth Monty and Robert Laird, both of Alstead, N.H.; two sisters, Dorothy Cayia and Betty Bell, both of Barre; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by two sons, Harold Jr. and Willis Laird; one grandson; and two sisters, Lorraine Burl’e and Phylis Maranville.
