WHEELER, ROMA R., 81, of Northfield, died September 16, at Fletcher Allen Health Care. She was born June 28, 1932, in Randolph, the daughter of Percy and Mildred (Kerry) Rice. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1949 and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Castleton State College in 1952. She continued her studies at various colleges in central and northern Vermont. She married David Wheeler in Randolph on June 25, 1955. She worked as an elementary school teacher in South Burlington and Connecticut and for 32 years in the Northfield school system, teaching mostly first grade, and also second and third grades for a few years. She was a member of the United Church of Randolph, Naomi Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Northfield, Alpha Delta Kappa, Vermont Red Hat Society and the Vermont NEA. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking, tending her flower garden and visiting Prince Edward Island. Survivors include her husband; one brother, Donald Rice, of Syracuse, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Thelma Faye.
