Clarice “Mickey” Bianchi Cella Best, 83, of Wallingford, died Nov. 22, 2017, at her home. She was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Barre, the daughter of Romeo and Olga (Bianchi) Cella. She graduated from Vermont (Junior) College and the University of Vermont. Mrs. Best worked as executive secretary for the state in Montpelier; a brief, but enjoyable, time as a reporter with The Times Argus; an employment interviewer position with the state of New York; and various duties with the New England Telephone Co. engineering department in Rutland. Delightful years were spent living on the Cook Farm in Wallingford planting and harvesting Christmas trees, gardening, and tending a small flock of sheep. She served on the board of trustees of Gilbert Hart Library. Mindful and saddened of how the open farmland landscape was disappearing and in an attempt to preserve an agricultural green belt around Wallingford, she was pleased to have been able to work with Vermont Historical Preservation to accomplish the first multiple resource area in Vermont, a designation that placed the handsome farmsteads along Route 7 South on the National Registry of Historic Places. On June 27, 1968, Clarice and Robins Woodward Best were married in St. Bridget’s Church in West Rutland.  Mr. Best survives her, as does her sister, Patricia Cella, a retired school teacher in Peabody, MA, and a semi-adopted daughter, Jill Burkett.
