Thomas “Tom” McCallum, 76, of Center Street, passed away on Nov. 7, 2017, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on Dec. 30, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert and Ellen (Moran) McCallum. Tom attended elementary school in Washington, VT, and was a graduate of Spaulding High School, Class of 1959. After his schooling, he was employed at Flint Brothers. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1967. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Barre where he was employed as a mechanic for Airport Tractor in Berlin. His last employment was for GIV as a forklift operator. On Sept. 28, 1968, he married Lise Trepanier in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre, the Barre Canadian Club where he was as avid cribbage player and a member of the VFW Post #790 of East Barre. Survivors include his wife of 49 years of marriage, Lise McCallum, of Barre; one son, Robert McCallum and his wife, Ann Marie, of Websterville; one daughter, Catherine McCallum, of Barre. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two sisters, Joan Hart and her companion, Bernard Roy, of Barre, Roberta Dessureau and her husband, Rene, of FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
