Agnes Perantoni, 98, of Barre, died peacefully on Nov. 5, 2017, at Woodridge Rehabilitation Center in Berlin. Agnes was born in Woodbury, VT, the daughter of Hazel and Neil Tassie. She was predeceased by her husband, Edo, and her infant son, Thomas, as well as her sisters, Dolly and Ruth. After attending schools in Woodbury, Agnes went on to attend Baypath College in MA. Following graduation, she married Edo on Sept. 19, 1941, in Fort Eustis, Virginia, prior to his deployment to Germany for active duty in World War II. They shared a great life together for 71 years. She was initially employed at the main office of Rock of Ages, after which she went to the capacitor plant, and then to Granite City Tool; after which, Agnes and Edo opened The Yardstick and Sportsland on Main Street in Barre. They later managed the lodge and ski shop at Skyline and next, the two of them managed the Northfield Country Club. After those endeavors, she worked for Cooley Construction, J.W. Dillon Insurance Co., Granite Bank, and retired from Lenny’s Shoe and Apparel. Agnes was a strong, intelligent and curious woman who loved people and touched the hearts of many. She enjoyed time in the kitchen cooking and baking. But the thing she enjoyed the most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Judy, and husband Bob Rivard, son Jerry and wife Ginny, all of Barre; as well as nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
