John P. Bonney, 93, died Nov. 3, 2017, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin, with family present. He was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of John F. and Elizabeth (Rudy) Bonney. He graduated from Baldwin, New York, High School and entered Norwich University in Northfield in 1941. In 1943, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army Air Corps, attending several military schools. He also served in the Vermont Army National Guard, retiring in 1966. Mr. Bonney married Gladys M. Wright in Westminster, Maryland, Sept. 4, 1943. He was employed for eight years by Bryant-Daily Corp. in Barre and then by the U.S. Post Office in Northfield. He was promoted to the White River District office as manager, procurement services, and later as the building management engineer. He attended the Postal Management Institute in Washington and became procurement service office manager for the Western Slopes District in Salt Lake City, Utah. He retired in 1986. He was a past master of DeWitt Clinton Lodge, #15 F&AM in Northfield. He was secretary, vice president and president of Local 3008 in Northfield, American Federation of Postal Clerks and Vermont State Federation of Postal Clerks. Survivors include his wife, of Northfield; three children, Constance “Connie” Potter, of Ware, Massachusetts, John Bonney, of Lexington Park, Delaware, and Ray Bonney, of Edwardsville, Illinois; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
