Avery Frank Atwood, 69, died Nov. 2, 2017, at his home, with family at his side. He was born Sept. 16, 1948, in Northfield, the son of Orrin Julius and Arlene Blanche (Avery) Atwood. He was a graduate of Northfield High School. Mr. Atwood was a small engine mechanic, plumber and jack-of-all-trades. He was employed by College View Dairy, Buck’s Mobil Station, both in Northfield, Sugarbush Corp. and Bombardier Corp. At one time, he owned a body shop and small engine repair shop. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Northfield. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, NASCAR, the Baltimore Orioles and Norwich hockey. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, whom he married Aug. 18, 1990; two daughters, Kimberly Balser, of RI, and Kelly Atwood, of California; five sons, Andrew Atwood, of Northfield, Donald Slothower III, of Swanton, Daniel Slothower, of Burlington, Dennis Slothower, of South Korea, and D.J. Slothower, of Ferrisburgh; five siblings, Penny, of Swanton, Gary, Brent, Bernard, all of Northfield, and Dale Atwood of Barre; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
