BATCHELDER, ELEANOR M., 87, formerly of East Calais and, for the past several years, a resident of Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center, died September 11. She was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Montpelier, the daughter of William Martin Bushey and Flora Adelaide (Ibey) Bushey. She married C. Roy Batchelder in November 1945 in Plainfield. He died in October 1986. She was a longtime cook at different facilities including the former Heaton House, Calais Elementary School, U-32 High School and Plainfield Senior Center. She enjoyed taking care of her gardens, sewing, and making quilts and Raggedy Ann dolls. Survivors include five daughters: Barbara Brown, of Milton, Courtney Chandler, of Colchester, Jane Tolassi, of Ringgold, Ga., Carol Webster, of Berlin, and Laurie Berard, of Jericho; three sons: Richard Batchelder, of Williamstown, Dale Batchelder, of East Calais, and David Batchelder, of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Goslant; a granddaughter, Mary Berard; a sister, Kathleen Black; two brothers, Fred and Kenneth Bushey; and her companion, Ruben Wilbur.
