FOURNIER, GISELE A., 85, a longtime resident of East Barre, passed away September 5, at Fletcher Allen Health Care. Her family was at her bedside. Born in Barre Town on Jan. 6, 1928, she was the daughter of Eugene and Marie Antoinette (Chapdelaine) Couture and had attended the Holy Ghost School in Graniteville, and graduated as class valedictorian of Sacred Heart School in Newport, in 1945. Gisele had worked as a bookkeeper in the granite industry for over 50 years, including Jones Bros., Beck and Beck, and was business manager for Kinfolk Memorials in East Barre for over 30 years, holding this position at the time of her death. On Sept. 11, 1954, she married Leo J. Fournier. They made their home in East Barre. Leo predeceased her on Jan. 17, 1985. Gisele was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially preparing holidays meals. She was a competitive cribbage player and avid lover of crosswords puzzles. In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling and visited several destinations in Canada and Europe. She was a life-time member of the St. Cecilia/St. Sylvester Catholic Church. She is survived by her son, Dennis Fournier; son Norman Fournier and wife, Maggie; daughter Lea Fournier; daughter Michelle Leever and husband, Jeff; three grandchildren; as well as many cousins. She was predeceased by her five brothers, Bernard, Paul, Gerald, Marcel and John, and her sister Claire.
