CLEVELAND, HUBERT N. “PETE,” 91, died July 3 at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield. He was born April 4, 1922, in Weymouth, Mass., the son of Stephen and Dora (Cooper) Cleveland. He graduated from Weymouth (Mass.) High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and afterward worked at H.P. Hood in Bridgewater, Mass. He and his wife moved to Vermont in 1957 and had a farm in Braintree until 1961. He then worked in sales for Tom Mowatt at Firestones and later as a bartender for Azel Hall and Lindy Lindquist at Valley Bowl in Randolph, as well as the Montpelier American Legion until his retirement.

He was a founder of White River Valley Snowgoers and a member of VFW Post 9449 and American Legion Post 9, both in Randolph. He enjoyed deer hunting and going for walks. Survivors include three children, Stephen Cleveland, Joanne Ernst and Sherri Grant, all of Braintree, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjory (Wood), whom he married in October 1949 in Hanover, N.H., and a brother, Frank Cleveland.
