James C. Hartson, 82, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 22, 1932 in North Babylon, Long Island, NY, the son of Harold & Mildred (Stahl) Hartson. He is a graduate of Milford, NH High School, class of 1951.
He married Shirley Smith in Newport News, Virginia on January 18, 1953.
He was a career military man, serving in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. He has traveled much of the world during his service and was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he had worked as a plumber in the Central Vermont area as well as Green Mountain Power.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Montpelier. He loved deer hunting, camping, remodeling his home, logging, gardening, and was an extensive traveler in the United States and Europe. He and his family have made their home in VA, FL, NY, ME, SC, MS, Germany, St. Albans, Calais and the past eight years in Berlin, VT.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Berlin; two children, James Hartson and his wife, Cheryl of Montpelier, Tracy Raymond and her husband, James of South Barre; one brother, Eugene Hartson of Hooksett, NH; one granddaughter, Sara Hartson of Montpelier; several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Greene and brother, Kenneth Hartson.
In keeping with his wishes, there are no calling hours. A graveside service celebrating his life and military service will be conducted Wednesday, November 19 at Noon with full military honors to be accorded in the Vermont Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Veteran’s Place, 220 Vine Street, Northfield, VT 05663. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield is in charge of the arrangements.
