Ronald C. Thomas passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at the age of 75.
He and his wife Candace began their married life in Barre City. Ron’s career as a VTrans highway technician brought them to the Northeast Kingdom in 1990 where they lived in the Stark District of St. Johnsbury. For the past ten years they had made their home in Danville.
Ron was born at home in Windsor, Vermont on Christmas Day, 1938, and was one of four children born to Elywin Thomas and Hazel (Michaud) Thomas Malnati. He was predeceased by his younger brother Richard.
Ron treasured his children memories of growing up in Hardwick. Having spent his teen years in East Barre, he looked forward to his class reunions as a member of the Spaulding High School class of 1956.
Ron loved traveling the back roads of Vermont, going to camp, and gathering around a campfire with family and friends. He was always happy to return home to his manicured, dandelion-free lawn! He valued education (both formally and informally) and quietly took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Besides Candace, his wife of 35 years, he is survived by six children: Jessica Dunbar and husband Jeremy, Wilson Thomas and wife Abby, Jennifer Mellish and husband Terry, Ronna Prescott and husband Tim, Todd Thomas, Mark Thomas and wife Dale; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; his two older siblings: Patricia Shea and husband Charles, and Robert Thomas.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family next spring.
Memorial contributions could be directed to either: for the Barre Fish and Game Buck Lake Youth Conservation Camp Scholarship (PO Box 130, Barre VT 05641), or payable to ‘Lisa Carlson’, marked for ‘Memory Tea’ (for those with Alzheimers and their caregivers), 94 Meadow Dr., Danville VT 05828.
