The Montpelier Recreation Department and the Montpelier Memorial Civic Center have teamed up for an exciting 4 vs. 4 double elimination basketball tournament May 17-18.
“We’re partnered up to make this event the start of a really big annual event,” says John Murphy, Director of the CVMCC, and Jenny Bartlett, Program Coordinator, at the Rec Department.
This 4 on 4 2nd Annual Slam will have two courts for five player (maximum) teams with brackets for middle school, high school, adults 18-39 and adults 40-plus teams can be coed. The cost is $20 per member for a chance to win medals and the winner’s name on a victory plaque.
Murphy and Bartlett are really excited about the possibilities of hosting this event at the civic center, for two days, rain or shine.
“We’ve purchased four really good hoops and can have two games and events going on at the same time,” note Murphy and Bartlett. Other events include a Free Throw Contest, Three Point Contest and a 50/50 raffle.
Plus, they will have a full week to set up and not disrupt any other activities. There will be plenty of viewing and parking accommodations for fans and great concessions (by Wendell), state Murphy and Bartlett.
Registration is Friday, May 9. Interested players should contact the Civic Center at (802) 229-5900, www.cvmcc.org, or, the Montpelier recreation Department at (802) 225-8699, www.montpelierrec.org.
Besides many local possibilities, they hope to also draw teams from New Hampshire and White River all the way up to Burlington.
“The possibilities of this event at this facility are almost endless. We can add more brackets if there is an interest.”
The two organizations have partnered up on other successful events such as public skating and dances.
