The Barre-Tones, central Vermont’s women’s a cappella barbershop chorus, qualified for international competition at its area contest held on April 26 in Portland, Maine. The international competition will be in November in Louisville, Kentucky and the Barre-Tones will compete against two dozen choruses from the US and Canada that qualified in their respective regional competitions.
In Portland, the Barre-Tones finished in 3rd place, achieving their highest score to date and taking home the Rising Star trophy for their effort.
Two quartets, UpScale and In Cahoots, from within the Barre-Tones membership, competed in the quartet competition on April 25, and both quartets scored high enough to also receive a spot at the international quartet competition.
The Barre-Tones began a new session on Monday, May 5th at at their Alumni Hall rehearsal location in Barre. Carpooling is available. Women who can carry a tune and have a love of music are welcomed to “find your voice” with other women who share the passion of a cappella singing. Music-reading skill is not required.
