Editor,
I am writing as a member of the Act 46 Study Committee to invite you to the
public forum on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Spaulding High School.
The Act 46 Study Committee has been meeting for the last few months to
discuss and study the consolidation of the governance of the Barre City
school district, Barre Town school district and Spaulding High School into
one school district. We are currently one Supervisory Union, but could
consolidate and become one School District. The difference would be that we
would be governed by one board for all three schools and share the same
policies and finances. This does not mean that we would have to consolidate
schools at this time. We would still be able to run 2 separate elementary
and middle schools and one high school. We would simply be one district
with one set of board members, one budget and one set of policies with three
schools.
We are holding the public forum to share information that we have learned
about Act 46, as well as get input from the community regarding the
challenges and opportunities of consolidation. I invite you to find more
information at our Act 46 web page (go to the Barre Supervisory Union web
page and follow the link for Act 46-Unification from the menu on the left
side of the page).
Please join us on Tuesday at the Spaulding High School Auditorium to share
your thoughts. We look forward to seeing you!
