Dear Editor,
I am supporting Susan Hatch Davis for State Representative for Orange District 1 (Chelsea, Williamstown, Washington, Corinth, and Vershire) because I believe working people deserve a powerful voice in Montpelier. Susan has consistantly proven to me that she supports working families, teachers, people with disabilities, the elderly, local school board members, loggers, farmers, and the poor. She supports the kind of legislation that doesn’t always make headlines because she respresents people most disenfranchised by the systems and policies that perpetuate poverty and oppression. I’m supporting Susan Hatch Davis because I believe that my well-being is tied up with the well-being of others, and I want my daughter to grow up attending well-funded, locally-controlled public schools, in a community where all families can afford healthcare, earn a liveable wage, and not have to choose between raising their children and earning a living.
What’s more, when it comes to values statements, I want to know why the needs of working people are always pitted against the needs of the state budget. I want to know why the needs of the wealthy, the power holders, and the private companies are consistantly valued over the needs of working people, towns, and communities. And I want to know why the very people advocating for the rights of those towns and communities are the ones being demonized for trying to destroy them.
Susan Davis is a woman who grew up in Orange, and raised her family here, so she knows the challenges facing families in rural Vermont. She knows that it’s the 99% for whom she’ll be working in the Capitol, and not the 1%. Susan doesn’t pretend that she can solve all the challenges we face, but she is the best candidate we have in Orange County, with the track record to prove it. Susan is a champion of labor and working people – the people that deserve the fairest shake, and biggest seat at the table, in deciding our future. We have two seats open in our district, and vote Susan if you are interested in collective liberation, honesty, and truth.
