Editor:
Ever since the May 2012 Vermont Supreme Court decision concerning issues of jurisdiction over access to Berlin Pond essentially opened it to human recreational use, which up until then had been protected for over a century, I have been seriously concerned about the very real threat that human recreational access creates for the public water supply serving Montpelier as well as a portion of Berlin.
There are plenty of other bodies of water in the area that are available for recreational use. Although I am someone who strongly supports reasonable recreational use of Vermont’s waters, it is my opinion that there is absolutely no reasonable purpose as well as no compelling need whatsoever to continue the allowance of human recreational usage of public water supplies along the lines of Berlin Pond.
Therefore I urge the State of Vermont to stand up for the cleanest possible water supply standards and approve in full the Citizens To Protect Berlin Pond Petition.
