GOODHEART, WILLIAM JOHN, 62, of Philadelphia, Penn., and formerly of Montpelier, died April 22. Born on Oct. 30, 1951, in Washington, D.C., Johnnie was the son of Bill and Nellie (Spaulding) Goodheart. He grew up in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1969. He went on to attend Castleton State College, earning his bachelor’s degree. While in high school and college, he was active in the theater arts programs and was instrumental in establishing the Coffee House in Montpelier at the Universalist Church. Following his graduation from college, Johnnie moved to Philadelphia, where he made his home for over 35 years. He worked for several years at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School Library in Philadelphia. For the past 28 years, he was the evening supervisor at the Ginsburg Health Sciences Library at Temple University in Philadelphia. His many friends, co-workers and students at Temple will fondly remember him. A jokester at heart, he will also be remembered for his many good-natured pranks and jokes. One of the highlights of his life was a monthlong trip to India in 2011 with his sisters Carol and Diana. John’s friends from India were amazed that he knew more about the country than they did. He was a cat lover and was known to open his door to any stray that needed a loving home. He was a warm and selfless brother and friend and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his brother, Michael Goodheart, of Kansas; five sisters, Cathie Goodheart, of Williston, Linda Comstock, of Barre, Diana Hayes, of Chittenden, Mary Goodheart, of Boston, Mass., and Carol Hayes, of Buxton, Maine; their families and many cousins.
