APPLEGATE, FLORENCE A., 98, a longtime Williamstown and Barre area resident, died April 22, at the J.L. Montgomery Care Center in Freehold, N.J. Born May 23, 1915, in Farmingdale, N.J., she was the daughter of Bertius and Clara (Marks) Matthews and had attended schools there. In May of 1934, she married Charles J. Applegate in Adelphia, N.J. In 1977 they moved to Williamstown to make their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Hunt. Charles died Dec. 20, 1984. In 2000, she returned to Freehold to make her home. She was an excellent pianist and enjoyed playing gospel music and helping the senior citizen community in the area. Florence belonged to the New Life Worship Center, now the New Life Assembly, on Trow Hill. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Charles and Ruth Applegate Jr., of Browns Mills, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son Evan Applegate and her daughter, Shirley Hunt, and all of her siblings.
