Obituaries » PETER F. THOMAS
THOMAS, PETER FRANKLIN, 63, of Plainfield, will be missed greatly by those who knew him. He was a teacher, a craftsman, and lover of nature and the outdoors. Time spent on the water with family and friends, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and fishing brought particular joy to his life. Peter spent a majority of his life as a craftsman, from building houses to additions, repair work and renovations, to photo frames, bookshelves and stained glass, he could do it all. Many buildings and lives were enhanced with his works. Peter had a special connection with a group of men that he helped pull together over 30 years ago. They bonded on an awareness of the need to share honestly with other men their feelings about the happiness and hurt in their lives. For years they spent time together – doing the expected talking, hiking, cooking/eating – and, yes: drinking and playing poker, usually meeting monthly; sometimes more, sometimes less. They were together for life events, marriage/divorce, new jobs and parenting, and all the emotions that go with them. The four remaining members of the group look at each other with memories of all the competence, helpfulness and good humor that Peter gave them in these years, and grieve to remember the pain and sadness in his life. For many years he shared himself gladly, and his four friends will miss his strong hand and ready smile. Peter is survived by his mother, Nancy Thomas; his sons Jesse and Nick; one granddaughter; siblings Alan, Ginny and Betsy; and one nephew. Peter was predeceased by his son Caidin and father, Dr. George P. Thomas.
