WOOD, MARK JAMES, 80, of Barre Town, passed away August 1, at Central Vermont Medical Center. Born in Hartland on May 30, 1933, he was the son of Ralph and Regis Wood. He went to grade school in a two-room schoolhouse in North Hartland, and graduated from Hartford High School in 1951. He then went to Albany Business College and graduated with high honors. He married Liette (Bergeron) Barre on May 15, 1971. They have always made their home in the Barre area. Survivors include his wife of Barre Town; three brothers, Paul Wood of Quechee; Peter Wood of Plainville, Conn.; and Thomas Wood of Stratham, N.H.; and a sister, Regina Gaudreau of Ludlow, Mass. He is also survived by a stepson, Timothy Barre and wife, Julie of Graniteville, and their two children. There are also numerous nieces and nephews in Vermont and throughout the United States. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers and one sister, John Wood, Raymond Wood, Jerome Wood, Richard Wood and Rita Kraljevich. Also deceased is a stepdaughter, Laurie Lee Barre. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church of Barre, and a member of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants. He was employed for 37 years for Reynolds & Son, Inc., retiring in 1991 as accountant/controller. In his retirement years, genealogy was his passion and he researched his family history tirelessly. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, but always found time to spend at the Maine seashore every summer.
