BUTLER, JUSTIN JOSEPH, 34, of Williamstown, died August 1, from injuries sustained in an ATV accident in Orange. Born April 27, 1979, in Berlin, he was the son of Walter Butler and Brenda (Benoit) Lasell. He attended elementary school in Barre Town and Williamstown, the Randolph Area Vocational Center, and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1998. From July 1998 to July 2002, he served in the U.S. Navy and on the USS George Washington. He later joined the Vermont Army National Guard, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005 when his unit was activated, and received several medals, including the Army Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device “V.” He worked in the central Vermont area and preferred working on small engines. His other interests included ATV riding, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, working on model cars and in earlier years, horseback riding. He was a member of the VFW Mackenzie-Webster Post 790 of Barre. Survivors include his children, Jazlyn Butler, Curtis Butler, Abigail Butler and Chesney Butler, all of Williamstown; his father, Walter Butler and companion, Deanna Goodrich, of Northfield; his mother, Brenda Lasell and husband, Morris, of Williamstown; a sister, April Bergeron and husband, Matthew, and two nieces, all of North Montpelier; a stepbrother, Edward Lasell and wife, Barbara, of Williamstown; a stepsister, Miriam Schlaegel and husband, Brian, of Ohio; special best friends, Judy Corbett, Bert Gallison and Donald Mountford; aunts and uncles; and his beloved yellow lab, “Rylee.”
