BENOIT, LUCIENNE M., 98, passed away September 25 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Born in Websterville on Dec. 29, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Damase and Albertine (Groleau) Martineau. Lucienne attended Holy Ghost Convent in Graniteville, and St. Michael’s High School in Montpelier. After her schooling she helped her parents in the operation of their boarding house. In 1939, she married Adelard Benoit in St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. After their marriage, they made their home in Orange, where they owned and operated a dairy farm. In 1951, they moved to Barre City where they made their home and raised their family. Lucienne was predeceased by her husband in 1963. In 1963, Lucienne was employed at National Life Insurance Co. in the cafeteria department, and later was the manager of the cafeteria department at St. Monica Catholic School in Barre, until her retirement. She was also a caregiver for the elderly, for many years. Her memberships included St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre, where she served as Eucharistic Minister for many years; Ladies of St. Anne Society, where she served as president; and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Monica #1181. Lucienne enjoyed spending precious time with her family and friends. Survivors include seven children: Adelard Benoit and wife, Judy of East Barre; Jeanne Hefner and husband, William of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Robert Benoit and wife, Rita of Barre Town; John Benoit and wife, Barbara of So. Burlington; Raymond Benoit and wife, Valerie of Fairfax; Francis Benoit and wife, Laura of Burlington; and Edmond Benoit and wife, Jane of South Barre. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Albert Martineau of St. Petersburg, Fla. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Colleen Kelley of Barre; she was a very special friend to Lucienne. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edgide and Eugene Martineau, and one infant sister, Annette Martineau.
