Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration at Aldrich Public Librar
Neighbor to Neighbor AmeriCorps members serving at Central Vermont Council on Aging have organized a special celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Aldrich Public Library in Barre on Monday, January 19th from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. AmeriCorps members all over the U.S. are working to further Dr. King’s dream of ending poverty and discrimination and creating a resurgence of justice, equality and peace for everyone.
The event at Aldrich Library will include a screening of Dr. King’s “I have a Dream” speech, delivered at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. There will also be speakers from Onion River Exchange, the Council on Aging (CVCOA), and Green Mountain Transit Authority, and others, talking about services and opportunities for seniors and people with a disability. Members of the Barre community will reflect on the city’s multi-cultural heritage. Entertainment will be provided by the CVCOA Drummers, and refreshments reflecting Barre’s heritage will be served. There will also be door prizes, donated by Nelson Hardware, Merchant’s Bank, Simply Delicious, Lenny’s Shoes, and others.
Everyone is welcome to this free community event. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Vermont Food Bank. If you are elderly or have a disability and need a ride, call Neighbor to Neighbor, 476-2668, to arrange transportation by Thurs, Jan. 15.
