Inauguration Festivities Planned for Montpelier
No need to try to battle the millions heading for Washington, D.C. for the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Inauguration Day will be celebrated right here in Montpelier beginning with a live feed on the big screen at Montpelier’s City Hall Arts Center from 11 a.m. on. Then, in the evening, people are welcome to end their work day by gathering at City Hall at 6:30 p.m. for a huge dessert potluck and community celebration.
“I’m digging out my ball gown and plan to celebrate this moment in history,” says Susan Ritz, one of the many volunteer organizers putting together the event. Indeed, dressing up for the dance that begins a 7:30 p.m. and features the Dave Keller Band and special guests, is encouraged but not necessary.
A host of participatory activities are also planned to keep folks entertained and the big-screen feed will continue to cover live action in Washington. Elsewhere around Montpelier, live music venues will also get in on the action with events at Langdon Street Café and Black Door Bistro.
All City Hall events are free and open to all, while the organizers ask that you offer a donation for Central Vermont’s various nonprofit organizations along with a potluck dessert item. There will be free coffee and tea and a cash bar serving wine, beer and soda. For information, call 802-223-4622 or email info@grassrootsfund.org.
