In Praise of the DMV
As the Department of Motor Vehicles is often the recipient of criticism, I’m delighted to write this letter to sing its praises.
The DMV was very receptive to the suggestion that a “Share the Road” safety message be printed on tens of thousands of envelopes that are designed to hold new license plates. Department employees Linda Snyder and Michael Charter were particularly accessible, responsive, and helpful in this process. Commissioner Bonnie Rutledge swiftly approved the idea and the design. Senator Don Collins got the ball rolling by encouraging the DMV and the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition to work together on an educational effort.
This is a great example of state government collaborating with a nonprofit organization for the benefit of all Vermont citizens.
Thank you, DMV.

Equal Rights for All
Marriage is a tremendously important tradition. Vermont law currently discriminates against some of its citizens by preventing them from getting married. This in turn puts their families at risk because they are not allowed the legal benefits that married couples are able to enjoy.
Our elected officials can change this situation thru legislative action. Vermont does not have to continue to support discrimination against the very families who contribute to its tax base, add to its social stability and enrich its culture. We all deserve equal rights under the law.
