WORLD Santa Project

(by Week of December 3, 2008 - December 03, 2008)

For almost 25 years, the WORLD Santa Project has brought brand new coats, hats and parkas to area children.

This award-winning project was originally started by the Central Vermont Rotary Club, and they continue the drive along with the Salvation Army in Barre and The WORLD Newspaper.

To date, over 3,000 children in central Vermont have benefited from this project and according to Bob Spaulding, CVRC WORLD Santa Coordinator, well over 100 more children will be covered by this year's efforts.

"All the Christmas children's drives are working extra hard to meet their goals, but thanks to our loyal contributors and hopefully some new ones, we will make our budget," says Spaulding, who has been an integral part of this project since the beginning in 1984.

This year the Salvation Army of Barre has a new management team, Captains Kim and Travis DeLong, who assumed their duty here in July from long-time captains Lewis and Norma Patrick.

"This is a great project, well run, and we're happy to be a part of it," notes Capt. Kim DeLong, who is also busy with their famous kettle drive and other holiday outreach projects."
