CECCHINI, NORMA MARY STOKES, 88

CECCHINI, NORMA MARY STOKES, 88, formerly of Montpelier, died November 3 at Woodridge Nursing Home, surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 14, 1923, in Hinesburg, the daughter of Adelbert and Ruby (Emmons) Stokes. Norma attended school in Hinesburg and graduated in 1945 from Mary Fletcher School of Nursing. She pursued her nursing career at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, and later as a nurse in the Montpelier school systems. On Dec. 2, 1950, she married Edro L. Cecchini in Northfield. They lived for many years at their home on Wheelock Street in Montpelier where they raised five children. Norma enjoyed spending time with her family whether it was camping in Maine, the many summers at Little River Campground or at the camp on Lake Champlain. She loved playing cards with friends, family and especially loved showing her grandchildren how to play cards and often challenged them to a game of cribbage or canasta. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, and was an avid golfer. Most of all, she cherished her children and grandchildren. Norma is survived by her five children: Jamie Machia and husband, John, of Highgate; Edro Cecchini Jr. and wife, Dora, of Arlington; Philip Cecchini and wife, Elizabeth, of Barre; Pam Poalino and husband, Dan, of North Clarendon; and Diane Clark and husband, Jeff, of South Barre. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her sister, Elene Brigham Sartell of Pennsylvania, many nieces, a nephew and many cousins. Norma was predeceased by her husband, Edro, on July 30, 2003.
