PEROJO, ELIZABETH, 90

PEROJO, ELIZABETH, 90, of Barre, died at Woodridge Nursing Home on October 26. "Betty" was born in Barre on April 7, 1922, the youngest of three daughters to Martin and Mary Riley. Her sisters, Virginia Riley and Jane McCloskey predeceased her. Betty graduated from Spaulding High School at age 16 and later from Green Mountain College. Betty married Eugenio Perojo, also of Barre, after he returned from World War II. He passed away in 1990. Betty worked as personal secretary to George Johnson of State Equipment Co. and later at the Vermont Tax Department in Montpelier. She attended St. Augustine, St. Andrew and St. Monica parishes in central Vermont and enjoyed summer pilgrimages to St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte. She was a member of Montpelier's American Legion Auxiliary 3 and VFW Auxiliary 792. After moving from Montpelier, she became a frequent diner at Soup 'N Greens in Barre where she occupied a special booth and maintained a close circle of friends. Spaulding High School class reunions were especially important to Betty. Her close friendship with Virginia Howard, of Montpelier, was also a joy in her life. Betty's total recollections of school years with those friends amused and amazed her generation and those that followed. Her fidelity with those friends and family sustained her to the end. She leaves her only daughter, Ann Goodrich, and husband John, of Alburgh; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Betty's devotion to her family was matched by their affection for her. Distance never kept Betty away from holidays, birthdays and family celebrations, where she applauded their achievements with generosity, praise and pride.
