LAMOREY, LUCIENNE DEGEORGE, 96

LAMOREY, LUCIENNE DEGEORGE, 96, known to many by her nickname Michele, passed away at her home in Barre Town on September 16. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, William Curtis (Curt); her son Daniel and wife Irene; her daughter Laura and partner Graham; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Born in Chamalieres, France on July 25, 1916, during World War I, she survived difficult times in France, from her dad's premature death in 1924, to other family tragedies on the outset of World War II. After the war, she met and married her husband, a Barre boy. In 1948, with her husband stationed in Casablanca for the Texas Oil Company, they decided that she should go to Barre for the birth of their first child. Speaking little English, she made the trip alone, flying from Morocco to Paris to New York, and then on to Vermont. She followed her husband on various postings in the oil industry, including a brief period in the U.S. Retirement brought them permanently back to the U.S., to the Green Mountains and the building of their dream home on family farmland on East Hill. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker, always there to support her children as they grew up and migrated to different places. She was a wonderful French cook, and enjoyed gardening and sewing. In her final years, when she no longer cooked, she always enjoyed the cooking shows on PBS as well as favorite meals prepared by her children. She was always there to help her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who have many wonderful memories of their Meme.
