Komen Donations Benefit Thousands of Vermont Women
Komen Donations Benefit Thousands of Vermont Women
Editor:
Thanks to the Vermont/New Hampshire Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, central Vermont women with and without insurance are able to have their mammograms and breast ultrasounds without any out-of-pocket expense. Komen has been CVMC’s breast care partner for many years, contributing tens of thousands of dollars each year to the breast care program. In 2012, our $48,750 grant is paying for breast imaging, monthly women’s clinics at People’s Health and Wellness Clinic, and occupational therapy services for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
All throughout Vermont, Komen is behind the scenes increasing access to life-saving breast cancer screening and funding programs that benefit women with breast cancer. The Affiliate did not support the national organization’s decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood last winter, a decision that drew attention from the good work done at the local level and that, thankfully, was quickly reversed.
The money Komen raises in Vermont through its annual Race for the Cure funds programs that help Vermonters, and none of it is used for administrative costs at the national level. CVMC can attest to the excellent stewardship practiced by our Komen Affiliate—these funds are used for real services for thousands of Vermont women. In 2012, the Affiliate made grants totaling $500,000 to 16 community-based programs in Vermont and New Hampshire.
The Race for the Cure took place last Saturday, July 28, at Hildene Meadows in Manchester, Vermont. If you were there, thank you! If you didn’t make the Race, there is still an opportunity to contribute. Go to www.komenvtnh.org/komen-race-for-the-cure and click on “Donate.” We can assure you that your contribution directly helps women right here in central Vermont.
