PUFFER, HAROLD BRUCE, 71, of Groton, died September 23 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He was born in Woodsville, N.H. on July 7, 1931, a son of Lorimer and Alice (Welch) Puffer. He graduated from Groton High School in 1955. He married Janet Helen Benzie on June 13, 1959. He served with the Vermont National Guard and graduated from the Vermont Military Academy in 1970. He worked for Modern Woodmen Agency as a sales representative and Puffer Brother's Broadcasting and WYKR Radio in Wells River. He was the former fire chief of Groton, Groton civil defense coordinator and recently served on the planning commission. He was also a former trustee of Cottage Hospital and director of Caledonia Home Health. He enjoyed carving and building ponds. He was predeceased by a son Mark Stevenson Puffer. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janet Helen (Benzie) Puffer of Groton; three sons Nathan Puffer of Groton, David Puffer of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Matthew Puffer of Groton; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon Puffer of Mildenhall, England and Eugene Puffer of Monroe, N.H., several nieces, nephews and cousins.
