MACHIA, HELEN ELAINE, 83, of Hardwick, died September 17 at the Union House Nursing Home in Glover. She was born May 29, 1925, in Morrisville, the daughter of the later Tyler and Inez (Howard) Richardson. She attended Peoples Academy in Morrisville. On Aug. 23, 1941, she married Ernest Forest Machia Sr. in Bakersfield. In 1948 she and her family moved to East Hardwick before relocating to Mackville Road in Hardwick in 1978. Mrs. Machia was employed as a cook at the East Hardwick School and for several years she cleaned camps for summer residents around Caspian Lake. She was a member of the Hope Community Church in South Walden. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards. Survivors include one son, Ernest F. Machia II of Greensboro Bend; three daughters, Gloria Lurvey and Patricia McAllister, both of Hardwick, and Janeta Little of Lantana, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband in 1988 and a son, Steven L. Machia, in 1959.
