LECLAIR, CONSTANCE M. 'CONNIE,' 71

(by Week of Sept. 24, 2008 - September 24, 2008)
LECLAIR, CONSTANCE M. 'CONNIE,' 71, of South Woodbury, passed away peacefully September 15, at her home after battling cancer. Connie was born in Bellows Falls on Oct. 9, 1936, to the late Frederick and Theresa (Roy) Dykeman. She was raised in Framingham, Mass., Bellows Falls and Barre, and attended school in the Granite City. She later married Adrian J. "Cooney" LeClair on Nov. 7, 1953, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2008. After a stint at Sprague Electric, Connie became a homemaker as her husband worked as a union driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking. She was enormously proud of the involvement that her husband and father both had with Teamsters Local 597, and developed an intense passion for politics and working peoples' issues. In the early years, Connie enjoyed spending summers with her husband and children at Lake Elmore, where they would swim, ride boats and fish. Connie also developed many lifelong friendships while raising her family in the Barre area. During retirement, Connie and her husband made seven cross-country road trips to Las Vegas. She absolutely loved the people, scenery and most importantly ñ the warm weather there. Even though she made visits to casinos in Montreal, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, her heart was always in the Nevada desert. When back in Vermont, she was most often found with her grandchildren. Connie is survived by her loving husband, Cooney LeClair; two children, Frederick LeClair and Catherine Lash; two grandchildren; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her parents and brother, who died while he was an infant, predeceased her.
