LAVELLE, JOHN ANTHONY, JR., 83, of Barre, died September 12, at Central Vermont Hospital. Born August 10, 1925, in Jeannette, Pa., he was the son of John A. and Anna (Badi) Lavelle Sr. He had attended St. Mary's High School in Katonah, N.Y. In 1954 he married Dorothy Reda in Greenwich, Conn. They made their home in Pawling, N.Y., for most of their married life. She died in September of 1995. In earlier years he had several occupations. He had been a mental health hygienist and alcohol counselor for the New York State Department of Mental Health from 1970 until his retirement in 1985. Hunting, fly fishing and antiques were his special interests. A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 and had seen action at Iwo Jima. He had held several offices in the Washington Apartments Tenants Council, including president. Survivors include his companion, Delia Emerson, of the Washington Apartments; three sons, John A. Lavelle III of Ocala, Fla.; David Lavelle of Shelby, Ohio, and Timothy Lavelle of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and a daughter, Traci Hackler of Efland, N.C.; and three grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Patricia Dehmer, of Armonk, N.Y., and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased, by his daughter, Susan Lavelle, and his sister, Anna Marie Brown.
