BERNIER, RUTH MARIE, 89

BERNIER, RUTH MARIE, 89, formerly of Williamstown Square, died September 15 at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her family. Born on Nov. 13, 1918, in Williamstown, she was the daughter of Edwin and Anna (Lemery) Gushea. She attended Williamstown schools. On Oct. 13, 1940, she married Amos Joseph Bernier in St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. They first made their home in East Barre. For many years, they resided in Chelsea and Washington and in 1985 they moved to Williamstown. He died July 11, 1991. For many years, Ruth worked as a nurse's aide at the Chelsea Home for the Aged. Later, she cared for children in her home and worked in the kitchen at the Washington Village School. After they moved to Williamstown, she attended St. Edwards Catholic Church. When her husband, Amos, became terminally ill, she was at his side constantly. After his passing, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth still enjoyed the occasional shopping trip, card game and good book. She is survived by her two sons, David Joseph Bernier and wife Jeanne of Chelsea and Donald James Bernier of Roxbury; her daughter, Donna Jean Jewett and husband Pete of East Barre; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A daughter, Anna Jane Bernier, and several brothers and sisters predeceased her.
