Celebrate Volunteers Every Day

Editor:

The area newspapers recently celebrated and promoted National Volunteer Week. It’s an event that has received more recognition over the years and has become very popular with the advertisers.

As the director of an organization that focuses on service, and service to others, it is certainly an acknowledgement of the amount of social capital that is invested in making our Vermont communities better places to be.

Let us not forget to celebrate every day, because volunteers are making things happen all the time. Remember them when you see area beautification projects, when they save a neighbor’s house from burning, or a life after an accident, or reading to a child or driving someone to the doctor’s, and the list goes on and on. These deeds should always be celebrated, remembered and valued.

My Coordinator just passed on this piece of wisdom from Charles Schultz: “The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care.”

Thanks for taking the time to say “Thank you.” If you are interested in being part of the caring community, call your local RSVP office, or visit us at www.volunteervt.com.
