Barre Town Democrats Welcome New Voices to Monthly Discussion

The Barre Town Democrats have developed an annual cycle of issues to be discussed and brought forward to our local, state and national representatives. Each month the Barre Town Democrats discuss one or two topics to develop clarity and agreement. Speakers and representatives frequently join them to help them understand policy under development. Republicans and Independents also join the group to add voice to the discussion. They are eager to build their organization and invite all interested people to join their monthly meetings which occur on the second Saturday of the month 8am-10am, at the Barre Town Municipal Building, basement conference room. The group gathers for coffee at 8am with the meeting starting at 8:30.
The group seeks to discuss and develop agreement on important issues to our society. Once a position is adopted, a mission statement, and talking points are created. They then work to inform, improve, influence and take action on them. This month, May 14, they will be revising and adopting a position on Affecting Social Change. Barre Town and Barre City issues of communication, youth support, corrections population, and tolerance will be addressed. Members of the "Momentum for Barre" group will join them as guests.
In April, the Barre Town Democrats took on Energy Sources. They discussed their position on industrial wind power, nuclear energy, and energy efficiency. In June they will be discussing education issues of early childhood learning, state curriculum standards, community service learning, adult education and more. July has "School and municipal budgets" on the agenda. The group has adopted positions on health system reform, support of local assets, the economy, and Challenges for Change.
The group invites your voice to help develop policy, and join them to both inform and be informed. Barre Town Democrats, Saturday May 14, at 8am.
